Korean lesson 6: Months of the year and days of the week


In this unit we will be bolstering our vocabulary by learning the months of the year and days of the week.

Months of the year are very easy to learn in Korean. It is basically ‘month one’ = January!
ir-wol = Jan
i-wol – Feb
sa-mwol – March
sa – wol – April
o-wol – May
*yu-wol – June
ch’ilwol – July
p’ar-wol – Aug
ku-wol – Sept
*shi-wol – Oct
shib-ir-wol – Nov
shib-i-wol – Dec

musûn wor-eyo? – Which month is it?

Days of the week
wor-yo-il – Mon
hwa-yo-il – Tues
su-yo-il – Wed
mok-yo-il – Thurs
kûm-yo-il – Fri
t’o-yo-il – Sat
ir-yo-il – Sunday

It might help to remember…:
il (or ‘ir’) = day/sun = so it’s Sunday
wol = month/moon = Monday (in Old English it was Moonday)
